A good lawn starts below the surface
Fresh turf cannot hide uneven ground, compacted soil or poor drainage for long. A proper plan begins by measuring the area, checking levels and inspecting what is already there. Where old grass or rubble needs removing, that work should be set out separately from the new turf.
What the quote should describe
Ask for the turf type and grade, the amount of excavation, any topsoil allowance, how the surface will be levelled and what happens to removed material. Edging against paths, beds and fences should be included in the scope. If the garden has access restrictions, these should be discussed before a start date is agreed.
Laying and aftercare
Turf is perishable, so delivery, preparation and laying need to be coordinated. The finished surface should be firm, with joins close together and no obvious hollows. Watering and first-mow instructions depend on weather and how quickly the turf roots. Get the aftercare advice in writing and follow it closely.
For a Teesside lawn, timing, drainage and soil condition all matter. A site visit gives a better basis for a quote than measuring from a photograph alone.
